New Conversion Settings for Mobile App Download

Conversion Analytics for App Download Ads is a feature that measures conversions as follows; the number of App downloads via “Google Play Store App”, users’ activities such as resignation and purchase in your app.

Tips
  • Up to 1,000 conversion settings are available in a total of webpage, click to call, app download, and import.
  • Admin or Edit role is required for new conversion tag setting.
Note
  • Conversion Analysis for App Download Ads is available only if the users download your App through “Google Play Store App”, but not through “Google Play Store” on web browsers.
  • For “App Download Ads”, you cannot measure Conversions for your App for iOS, but for App for Android.
  • For “Event loaded from app measurement partners," you need both Yahoo! JAPAN’s Campaign Management Tool and its compatible third-party tracking software. Learn more on "Track user's action in Apps".

How to install New Conversion Analytics setting for App Download

Follow the procedures outlined below to create and set up conversion settings for App Download Ads.

Steps
  1. From the upper left of the campaign management tool, click the “Search Ads“ tab.
  2. From the drop-down menu next to “Tools,” select "Conversion Analytics."

  3. Click the "Conversion Settings" tab.

  4. Click the "Create New Conversion Trackings" button on the "Conversion Settings" page.

  5. The page "Create New Conversion Trackings" appears.

  6. Enter "Conversion name".
    An unique name based on the objective and condition of conversion analytics is available, with up to 100 characters. Any name which will help to identify the value easily is recommended.
    Tips
    The conversion name has to be unique within the account. Note that if you skip entering the name, the name which appears on the field as default will be assigned.
  7. Select "Conversion type".
    For App, select "App" on the pulldown menu.
  8. OS platform
    "Android" OS is automatically selected.
    Note
    The conversion analytics does not support "iOS" App.
  9. Select the appropriate user action from any of the following options, and enter or select required items for the setting.

    Event loaded from app measurement partners

    In-app user behavior (such as the first launch of an app or the purchase of a product) is measured as a conversion. When you use this, you need to install the tracking tool provided by app measurement partner along with the setting on the Campaign Management Tool.

    See the following information in detail for each user action.
    Conversion on the user action "App download"
    Conversion on the user action "Event loaded from app measurement partners"
    Tips
    ・"Include/Exclude" for Auto Bidding
    Specify "Include" or "Exclude" in order to define whether it use the number of conversions by the conversion tracking for Auto Bidding feature or not. The object of this setting is to "exclude" any specific conversion from the counted conversions when using Auto Bidding feature.
    For example, if you need to track two type of conversion ("app download" and "event loaded from app measurement partners") and also you want to use Auto Bidding feature by the CPA of "event loaded from app measurement partners", enable the setting as follows.
    - Conversion tracking for "app download": "Exclude" for Auto Bidding.
    - Conversion tracking for "event loaded from app measurement partners" ; "Include" for Auto Bidding.

    ・Counting type

    Specify any of the following types.
    - One per click : counts only the first one conversion occurred on the browser of user's ad click within the counting period.
    - Many per click : counts all conversions occurred on the browser of user's click within the counting period.

    ・Counting period
    Tracking conversion will enable you to mark the conversion occurred for one click on an ad during the specified counting period. You are able to specify the period from 1 to 90 days depending on the product/service on your marketing campaign.
    *Setting the period for 7 days or more is recommended. If the period is too short, conversions may decrease.

  10. Click the "Save Settings" button to save the conversion information.

 

< Conversion Name >
Set a name that is easy to identify using 100 characters or less (half-width and full-width characters are counted the same way), based on details such as the purpose and setting conditions of the conversion. It is recommended to set a name that will be easy to identify when verifying conversion performance.

Tips
It is not possible to set multiple conversions to the same conversion name within a single account. If no conversion name is set, then the name displayed in the entry field will be used as the conversion name.

Select "App Download" from the pull-down menu.

< OS >
OS is automatically set to "Android".

Note
Conversion Analytics of App for iOS is not supported.

<Select action you'd like to track>

You can select the “Action you’d like to track” among the following three.

  • App Download: You can measure App Download as one of the Conversion types.
  • App First Open: You can measure App First Open as one of the Conversion types.
  • In-App Action: You can measure In-App Action, such as users’ purchasing products and membership registrations, as one of the Conversion types.
Note
To check whether or not the set conversion measurements are functioning correctly, click the ad yourself and verify that a conversion occurred, or wait for actual conversion. Also, note that it may take some time between when the conversion settings are completed and when data is actually displayed.

Depending on the tracking action, the required information to set up varies.

Conversion tracking purpose"Download" is automatically selected. It cannot be changed.
Package Name

Select the package name from the list of already registered for App Download Ads, or you can select the "Enter as New" to enter the package name.

Note
  • It is not possible to set multiple conversions with the same package name.
    A single conversion setting of conversion type "App Download" with the same package name is available.
  • If the entered package name is not correct, then conversions cannot be measured. Click the "Verify App Content" button and verify the correct package name. Keep in mind that no error message is displayed if the package name is entered incorrectly.
Counting type"One per click" is automatically enabled. (no other option available)
for Auto Bidding

Specify any of "Include" or "Exclude".

Note
  • Even if you specify “Include” for Auto Bidding, using the Auto Bidding feature is not mandatory.
  • When you have select any of "Target CPA," "Target ROAS" or "Enhanced CPC," make sure the following points.
    - Set one or more options of "for Auto Bidding" as "Include" for Conversion settings which is appropriate for the campaign.

    - If you set the option "for Auto Bidding" as "Exclude," the number of conversions of your ads may not increase or your ads may not be displayed for users, because of an accuracy issue on auto bidding.

  • When you specify “Exclude” for Auto Bidding, the number of “All conv.” for campaign and other components but the number of “Conversions” will not be marked.
  • At the time of conversion tracking for Mobile app download campaigns, you cannot select “Include” (Use conversion for Auto Bidding) for both “Download” and “App First Open” for the same package.
Counting period"30 days" is automatically set.
Value per Conversion

Enter a monetary value (Revenue) within 13 characters, so that you can check your Revenue as a Report. If you not define the value, this item is not required.

Tips
  • This item will allow you to review the Revenue amount on reports.
  • The fixed value is required for the Revenue.

Conversion on the user action "Event loaded from app measurement partners[Back to Step9]

Counting type

Specify any of option "One per click" or "Many per click".

  • One per click :

for Auto Bidding

Specify any of "Include" or "Exclude".


Note
  • Even if you choose "Include" for this option, it does not start until the the older method ends. Use the older type of conversion analytics that uses post back URL at the same time, when you need to use for auto bidding. Learn more about details on the release note.
  • Even if you choose “Include” for auto bidding, using the auto bidding feature is not mandatory.
    - Set one or more options of "for Auto Bidding" as "Include" for Conversion settings which is appropriate for the campaign.
    - If you set the option "for Auto Bidding" as "Exclude," the number of conversions of your ads may not increase or your ads may not be displayed for users, because of an accuracy issue on auto bidding.

When you specify “Exclude” for auto bidding, the number of “All conv.” for campaign and other components but the number of “Conversions” will not be marked.

Tips
  • This item will allow you to review the Revenue amount on reports.
  • Enter any numerical values for “Value per Conversion”, and set up to acquire Conversion Revenue with your third-party tracking software installed already.

Note
You can confirm whether your conversion analytics works properly by clicking on your ad to make a conversion. Or wait the real conversion occurred by internet user.
Note that it may take time to display data after you set conversion analytics.
