Set up audience list targeting

Audience list targeting lets you deliver ads to a specific audience using an audience list.

The following section describes how to set up the audience list targeting using the Campaign Editor for Display Ads. Find outlines on 1 to 3, then more description on each step.

Outline of setting up audience list targeting

1. Create an audience list
Create an audience list that includes websites users visited, etc.

2. Prepare a campaign and ad group to associate the audience list targeting.

Associate the audience list you created to your ad group.

You can set up an audience list targeting option using the following methods.

Create an audience list

Steps
  1. From the side menu of the Campaign Editor, click “Common Library.”
  2. From the "Lists," select “Audience lists.”
  3. From the top of the data area, click “Create audience list.”
  4. Select "Rules," "Combination," "Similar users," "Website visitors," or "Customer data."
    Tips
    • The list type "Default" audience list (previous Target List) is a list automatically made before November 23, 2021.

  5. A new row appears at the bottom row of the data area.
  6. Specify each setting in the data details.
    *You can specify some items in the data area.

    FieldDescription
    1 Audience list nameEnter a target list name.
    2 StatusThe status of the audience list appears.
    3 List typeThe list type you selected in Step 4 appears.
    4 Tag ID

    Select a site retargeting ID (custom audience ID) when the list types are:
    Rules
    Customer data
    Similar users
    Website visitors

    5 Scale of similaritySelect a scale of similarity from 1 to 10.
    When you select 10, you will get more audience who are not so similar to the base list.
    6 User sizeThe approximate number of unique users in the audience list appears.
    Note
    The user size is the reference and doesn't guarantee an actual value.
    7 List statusYou can set whether or not to store data based on the user's site visit history and app event information. Use this field for the list types "Website visitors" and "Rule."

    8 Membership durationFor the list types "Website visitors" and "Rule," enter the valid duration (1-540) of data you stored in the audience list.
    For the list types "Customer data" and "Custom," enter the valid duration (1-60) of connected data.

    9 Settings for past website visitors

    For the list types "Website visitors" and "Rule," select whether or not to store past website visitors to your audience list.

    • Set: Visitors, before you create an audience list, are included.
      This setting stores visitors of your website (or apps) for the past 30 days (maximum) when they match the rules.
    10 DescriptionDescribe your audience list.
    11 Details

    To set up the list, click "Set/Edit audience list."
    You need this setting when the list types are "Website visitors," "Combination," "Rule," and "Similar users."
    *See Step 7 for the details.
    *When you select "Custom list" in Step 4, Go to Step 8.

  7. To set up each field of the audience list, click "Set/Edit audience list."

    1 RuleSelect whether or not to set a rule.
    When you select "Set rule," the set-up fields appear.
    2 Set ruleSpecify the rule you want to set for the audience list.
    A: Select one from the following:
    • URL
    • Custom Label
    • Referrer URL
    • Page Type
    • Event Type
    • Category ID
    • Item ID

    B: Enter a rule or select from the drop-down menu.
    C: Select how to determine a rule.
    3 AddAdd a Rule.
    Tips
    • Rules apply under the "OR condition."
    • Up to 10 rows of rules per audience list (rule).
    4 Add combinationAdd a Rule Group.
    Tips
    Rules apply under the “AND condition.”
    Tips
    A "Rule" refers to a row of the Rule while a "Rule Group" refers to multiple rows of rules.

  8. To add your settings to the data details and set-up area, click OK.

Associate an audience list with the ad group

Steps
  1. From the side menu of the Campaign Editor, click "Audience list."
  2. From the top of the data area, click "Set up audience list."
  3. Select the audience list you want to set up.
    When the ad group isn't selected in the account tree:
    Select ad groups.
    When the ad group is selected in the account tree:
    Select the audience list. 
    Tips
    The upper-level (accounts and campaigns) settings apply to the lower levels (ad groups).
  4. Select Add as "Allow" or Add as "Exclude."
  5. A new row appears at the bottom row of the data area.
  6. Specify the bid adjustment rate in the data details area.
  7. Upload the settings to the Campaign Management Tool.

    Tips
    You can associate an audience list to an ad group with the following steps in the common library view:
    1. From the list in the common library, select "Audience list".
    2. Click the option in the menu to associate to ad group.
    3. Select the ad group that you set the audience list.
    4. Select any of "Allow" or "Exclude" for the list.
    5. Save the setting.
