Gender targeting

Gender targeting is a function for filtering the distribution of ads to males or females by setting the ad viewer’s gender in advance.

Age targeting is a function for filtering the distribution of ads to the ages of specific users by setting the Internet user’s age in advance.
Age Targeting

Gender and age targeting are set in the ad group with the following procedures.

  1. Open the main window of the Campaign Editor for Display Ads (Auction).
  2. Select the targeting item to set on the display content list on the left-hand side of the window.
  3. Click the “Set up” button on the operation menu at the top portion of the data area.
    For gender targeting: "Set up gender targeting" button
    For age targeting: "Set up age targeting" button
  4. Select the ad group at the left area.
    • Select the upper level, such as an account or campaign to shift all ad groups under that to being selected.
    • When an ad group has already been selected in the account tree, targeting is set for that ad group. The selection window is not displayed.
  5. Set gender or age at the right area, then click "OK".

  6. You can see a new line of the targeting setting at the bottom of the data area.
  7. Enter "Bid Adjustment" rate for the targeting.
    ・Enter the rate from "1" to "100" for "Increase by" and from "-1" to "-90" for "Decrease by."
    ・Enter "0" when you do not set Bid Adjustment.

    * To select multiple gender and age target, repeat steps 3 to 7.

    • When gender and age targeting are not set, ads are distributed to all Internet users.
    • When set to any arbitrary gender or age, ads are distributed to Internet users that can be judged to be of the gender or age which were set.
    • The precision of targeting is not a guarantee by Yahoo! JAPAN. Precision will vary depending on the selected settings and other elements.
    • You can set the bid adjustment rate for each gender targeting and age targeting setting.
    • "Unknown" can be selected for gender and age. When selecting "Unknown", ads are delivered to users whose gender/age is unknown.

Predicted users

Predicted users mean the audience who seems to be in the selected gender or age group. The estimation uses machine learning based on the delivery data of each ad place and users' interests, such as search history.
By enabling the checkbox of "Predicted," ads will be delivered to the user of the gender / age you selected and to the users who are presumed to be the selected gender / age.


When the checkbox for "20-24" is enabled →Ads will be delivered to users distinguished as "20-24" years old and users who are presumed to be "20-24" years old.

Data added, changed, or deleted, and targeting set in the Campaign Editor are applied to the account data of the Campaign Management tool by uploading. The changes will not be applied to the Campaign Management tool if the Campaign Editor is quit without uploading the data.
