What is Target List

When Site retargeting is selected as the ad group's targeting type, Target List settings are required. This help topic provides an overview of Target lists.

What is Target List

You can accumulate the following users and user list:

  • Users who visited the advertiser's web site in the past.
  • Users with some behaviors similar to the users included in the original target list.
  • User list with specific event/actions in the app.
  • User list originally accumulated and analyzed by the advertiser.

By setting the Target List for the ad group with Site retargeting, it becomes possible to deliver ads to the users included in the Target list, and also to exclude users from the target of ad delivery.

Target lists come in the following types:

Tips
Up to 400 Target Lists can be created for each account, including the default Target lists that are created automatically, and Shared Target list across accounts. Also note that there is exclusive limit for the target list with list type "Similar Audience" and "Custom".

1. Target List (Default)

*Note: "Default list" on the new ad management tool for Display Ads.
"Target List (Default)" is created automatically when the Site retargeting tag is issued.
This list contains every user who has visited the site tagged with the Site Retargeting tag.

4. Target List (Similar)

This list extracts users with similar action histories on the Web based on Target List (Default), Target List (Rule) and Target List (Custom).
Target List (Similar) works to display ads to estimated users similar to the users by Default or Rule Target Lists.

Target List (Similar) extracts users with similar action histories on the Web, analyzing the visitors data of the past days included in the based Target List and also analyzing user action on Yahoo! JAPAN.
This list extracts users with similar action histories on the Web based on Target List (Default) ,Target List (Rule) and Target List (Custom). Similarity can be adjusted by changing the Target List size.
For similar lists: if the user size of the past 28 days is less than 100, a similar audience won't be accumulated basically. However, if the user's action history that can be analyzed is small, it may not be accumulated even if the user size (reach number) exceeds 100.

Note
  • Be aware that when creating the target list (similar) with the base list for the first time, it will gradually accumulate similar users using 30 days staring from the first creation of the list. Also it may take 2 days for the ad delivery to start after setting the list to campaigns and ad groups. If the start date of ad delivery is fixed, create the target list (similar) in advance. If the start date of ad delivery is fixed, create the target list (similar) in advance.
  • Even if you create multiple target lists (similar) based on the target lists with same settings but with various duration of visit history, the similar users on the list will be same as a result, since those users are extracted based on the site visitors of the previous day.
Tips
  • Up to 100 Target Lists (Similar) are available per account.
  • The number of Target List (Similar) that can be created from single Target List is maximum 10 lists. Target List (Similar) with the same size as Target List cannot be created.
  • You cannot create Target List (Similar) based on the Target List (Combination) or on the Target List (Similar).
  • The users on the base Target List may be included in the Target List (Similar).
  • Even if the base target list is the same, the number of similar users will change depending on the list creation timing.
  • If you edit settings of the base Target List, the similar users will be automatically updated.
  • The information of similar users on Target List (Similar) will be stored for 30days.

*The feature specification may be updated for system optimization and process delay without prior notice.

5.Target List (Custom)

Target list (custom) is an original user list (custom list) accumulated and analyzed by advertiser and will be used to deliver ads to those users included in the list. Custom list will be connected to YDN via data connecting tool such as Yahoo! JAPAN DMP.

Using the target list (custom), following targetings become available.

Tips
  • Maximum number of target list (custom) per account is 100.
  • Learn more details of YDN ad delivery by custom list on the following help.
    Targeting with Custom List
  • Data sync tools such as Yahoo! JAPAN DMP is required to use target list (custom).
Please contact our support staff about tools which can link to YDN.
Note

When using Data connecting tools other than Yahoo! JAPAN DMP, the list that can be connected to YDN is Custom List of App users only. For this reason ad delivery is for app only and no delivery to web sites. Also ads will not be delivered when Target List (rules) with rule type specified as ‘Referrer URL’ and ‘URL’ is combined with ‘AND’ condition.
