Create Campaign (for Mobile App Download)

To create ads for app download for Search Ads you will need to create an app download campaign and ad group in advance. 


Ad delivery for iOS pre-order apps and Android pre-registration apps is not available.

To create a new campaign, see the following steps.

Create a Campaign

*It is not required to setup <Option> items.

  1. Click the "Search Ads" tab.
  2. Click the "Campaigns" tab.
  3. Click the "Create Campaign" button on the top of campaign list, or click "Create New" on the left navigation panel, then select "Create Campaign."
  4. Check the account name to create a campaign.
    Make sure the name displayed for “Account Name” is correct If you are using more than one account, make sure your campaign has been created with the desired account.

    If the appropriate account name is not displayed, click the "Campaigns" tab. You can click the "Select Account" on the left navigation panel, then select an appropriate account from the list.
  5. <Option> “Use Existing Settings”
    You can apply the same settings with existing campaign (budget, how to deliver ads) or recommended settings for your new campaign.
    Click "Reflect settings of an existing Campaign (Option)" > "Select from Templates" or "Select from Existing Campaigns" and then select the template or campaign.
    When you create a new campaign with "Reflect settings of an existing Campaign (Option)," max. 100 negative keywords can be copied in chronological order. If you like to add more than 101 negative keywords in the campaign, add them after creating the campaign.
  6. Select "Mobile App Download Campaign" for the Campaign Type.
  7. Enter a campaign name.
    Naming the campaign using your service name, product category, etc. is a good idea.
  8. "Schedule"
    You can set any date for the Campaign. Default settings are "from Today" for the start date and "No End Date" for the end date.
    *Past date is not allowed for Start and End date.
    *When you select “from Today” to save campaign, “Start Date” is not editable.
    When changing the dates:
    -Click "Option setting (Schedule)."
    -Select the radio button next to the date entry field and enter the dates or click the calendar icon.

    In order to automatically start delivering the ads on the scheduled date, set the start date after setting the display setting "On." If you set the display setting 'Off' before the date set, it will not start automatically.
  9. Select OS
    Select OS (iOS/Android) for your Mobile App to promote.
  10. App ID/Package Name (See more)
    Enter "App ID" for iOS, and "Package Name" for Android.
    • You can confirm your App ID for iOS with Apple Store’s App download page URL. Sample of App Store’s App download page URL:
      When you create a campaign specifying App ID of any brand new app on App Store, it may take time to start displaying ads of the campaign.
    • You can confirm your Package Name for Android with Google Play App download page URL and as well as Google Play App details page.

  11. Enter an amount for "Campaign Daily Budget."
    The daily budget must be 100 yen or more, enter a value in increments of 100 JPY. The system will automatically adjust the frequency of ad display to meet the daily budget.
  12. Select bidding .
    Select a bidding from the "Bidding" pull-down menu.

    Auto Bidding
    Bidding setting on Campaigns

    For "Auto Bidding"
    Select "Bidding type."

    To set different values for each campaign, select "Standard bidding," and to use fixed value, select "Portfolio bidding" when auto bidding is selected.
    With Standard bidding
    When you select following Auto bidding types with Standard bidding, enter value for each item.
    - Maximize Clicks : Bid Limit
    - Maximize Conversions : optional : Target CPA (optional)
     *When setting the "Target CPA", you need to specify the target value at the entry field.
    - Absolute top placement: placement, target impression share, bid limit
    - Maximize conversion value : optional : Target ROAS (required)
    When selecting "standard bidding", "Target CPA" and "Target ROAS" are optional settings and cannot be set individually.

    With Portfolio bidding
    When you select any Auto bidding type with Portfolio bidding, select a name from "Apply existing Auto bidding name."

    • You can also create a new Portfolio Bidding for Auto Bidding by selecting "Create Portfolio bidding."
    • If you edit the Ad Group Bid or the Keyword Bid while you set "Auto Bidding" at the Campaign level, the Ad Group Bid or the Keyword Bid will be applied temporarily. Also if you set the ad display status off after you edit the bids, the ad group bid or the keyword bid will be applied temporarily after the ad display status is set back on.
    • When you select "Auto bidding," "Optimize" will be applied for ad delivery even "Rotate Evenly" for ad rotation is selected.
    • When you set auto bidding, the bid adjustment for targeting will not be available in some auto bidding settings. See more details on the following help topic.

    • You cannot set "Individual CPC (Enhanced CPC)."
  13. You can select "Devices" to deliver ads, and set bid adjustment.
    If you have no preference, you can leave it as the default setting.

    *Ads of Mobile App Download campaigns are delivered to smartphone and tablets. There is a column to set PC but the ads won't be delivered to PCs.
    *To specify your ad delivery to smartphone or tablet, see the following steps "Display Settings by device."
  14. Select "Geographic Location" to deliver ads, and set bid adjustment.
    If you have no preference, you can leave it as the default setting.

  15. Select "Day of Week / Hours" to deliver ads, and set bid adjustment.
    You can set day of week and hours to deliver ads in unit of 15 minutes. If you have no preference, you can leave it as the default setting.

  16. <Option>"Ad Distribution"
    The following two types of ad distribution can be selected. "All Ad Distribution" is set as default. When changing the setting:
    1. Click [Option setting (Ad Distribution)].
    2. Select a method.
    • All Ad Distribution :
      Ads will be displayed on the destination site from search result pages and from recommended keyword results.
    • Search only:
      Ads will only be displayed on search result pages.
  17. <Option>"Negative Keywords"

    When negative keywords are set, the ads will not be delivered when searched with these keywords.
    To set negative keywords for your campaign, click the "Option setting (Negative Keywords)" > enter negative keyword(s) in the entry column > click the "Add" button.

    *Enter one negative keyword per line.
    *You can also set match types when setting the negative keywords. Learn more about Negative Keywords.

    Creating a Negative Keyword List to summarize multiple Negative Keywords is available to be shared with multiple campaigns. Learn about details on the following help page. Note that Negative Keyword List can be setup to campaign after creating campaign.

  18. <Option> "URL options"
    You can set Tracking URL for the campaign. Learn more about Tracking Information (Tracking URL and Custom Parameter).
  19. Save the Campaign
    Click the "Save and Create Ad Group" to save your created Campaign.
    It completes the creating Campaign process. The next step is to create Ad Group.

  • Create and edit setting of "Ad Rotation" on campaign level has sunset on January 24, 2018. The "Ad Rotation" setting feature became available on ad group level.
    Automatically optimize ad display

Display Settings by device

Ad for App download is delivered to both smartphones and tablets for each OS. You can narrow down the devices to deliver your ads.

  • Deliver to smartphones only
    Enabling the checkbox "Display to Smartphone preferentially" when creating your ad for app download, your ads can be displayed on smartphones.
    Create your Ad (for Mobile App Download Ads)

  • Deliver to tablets only
    If you don't need to display your ads for smartphones, select "Decrease by" and enter "100" for smartphone on “Device” of Targeting screen on the steps of creating Mobile App Download campaign. It can define the setting not to display ads on smartphone, it means displaying ads only on tablet devices.
