Set Up Target Lists

To set site retargeting, you need to set up the target list created to campaign or ad group. To set site retargeting, you need to set up the target list created to campaign or ad group.

Check the following when setting up the target list.

  • To setup Target List as "Allow", it is available for either campaign or ad group.
    • To set up to campaign
      The target list of the upper level (campaign) will be enabled for the ad group under it. The "Allow" target list cannot be associated to the ad group.
      You need to remove setup of the target list of the upper level to associate the "Allow" target list to the ad group.
    • To set for an ad group
      You cannot associate the “Allow” target list of the upper level campaign.
      Remove the setup of the ad group and target list under the campaign to setup “Allow” target list to campaign.
  • A single Target List cannot be setup to a campaign or an ad group as both "Target" and "Exclude."
  • When setting up multiple Target lists to one campaign/ad group, they will be applied as "OR" condition.

The case when setup Target list to campaign and its ad groups

In this case when a Target list setup to campaign and its ad groups, the settings both of campaign and ad groups will be combined. See the following illustration.

Campaign:
Setup Target list 1 as "exclude"
Ad group:
Setup Target list 2 as "allow"
Setup Target list 3 as "exclude"
*Select the option "all user" for "target users."

-> In the above case, your ads under the ad group will be displayed to User A and User E.

The case when setup multiple Target list for ad groups

In the case when you setup Target list for ad group, you will be able to edit setting of Bid Adjustment for the target users included in the Target list.

Ad group:
Setup Target list 1 (Bid adjustment rate 10%) as "target"
Setup Target list 2 (Bid adjustment rate 50%) as "target"
Setup Target list 3 as "exclude"
*Select the option "all user" for "target users."
Bid adjustment and Target Lists
-> In the case above, your ad under the ad group will be displayed to all users excluding users on Target list 3. The bid adjustment rate will effect to target users on Target list 1 and 2.

Maximum number of target lists that can be associated with a campaign or ad group

To set up to campaign

  • Total number of following entities : Up to 950,000 per an account
    • Number of setups, Target list to campaign
    • Number of settings of Geographic targeting, Day of week/hours targeting, Device targeting
  • Total number of following entities : up to 5,000 per a campaign
    • Negative keywords set in the “Negative Keywords Tool.”
    • Number of settings of Geographic targeting, Day of week/hours targeting, Device targeting
    • Number of Target settings (exclude) on Dynamic Ads for Search

To set for an ad group

  • Total number of following entities : up to 50,000 per an account
    • Number of keywords
    • Negative keywords associated to ad groups using the “Negative Keywords Tool.”
    • Number of Target settings (allow, exclude) on Dynamic Ads for Search
  • Total number of following entities : Up to 2,000 per an ad group
    • Number of keywords
    • Negative keywords set in the “Negative Keywords Tool.”
    • Number of Target settings (allow, exclude) on Dynamic Ads for Search

Steps

The steps to set, change, and remove setup of target list is as follows.

Set up Target list

Steps
  1. Click the "Search Ads" tab of the Campaign Management Tool > "Administration."
  2. Click the account name in the ‘Account List.’
  3. Click the arrow (▼) in the [Tools] tab and then click [Target Lists] in the pull-down menu that appears.
    Alternatively, click the [Tools] tab and then click [Target Lists] in the "Tool List" screen.
    ・To setup Target List for Target List Group using the feature of sharing Target List across accounts, click the "Target list groups". (*1)
  4. Enable all checkboxes Target lists to be set up.
    Note

    ・Setup Target Lists will overwrite the existing settings to update. When you change setup settings, make sure that you need to enable all Target Lists including the lists currently setup.
    ・When you setup Target List with the option "Reach Status" set as "Closed" to a campaign or an ad group, ad delivery may not work properly.
    ・If you setup a Target List to a campaign or an ad group just after created the list, the setup may not complete and may be error. When an error occurs, wait a while and try setup later.
    ・The default setting when set to campaign/ad group is as follows.
     -Bid adjustment rate for the Target list: 0%
     -Target Users: All Users
     *If Target list is set for campaign/ad group created before February 27,2018, the default target users will be "Users on the List."

  5. Click "Set" button from the pull-down menu and select one of the followings: “Set to ad groups (Allow)”, “Set to ad groups (Exclude)”, “Set to campaigns (Allow)”, “Set to campaigns (Exclude)”.
    *To setup Target List as "Allow", it is available for either campaign or ad group.
    ・Set to ad groups (Allow)
    Your ads will be delivered to the target list users under the selected ad group.

    ・Set to ad groups (Exclude)
    Your ads won’t be delivered to the target list users under the selected ad group.
    ・Set to campaigns (Allow)
    Your ads will be delivered to the target list users under the selected campaigns.
    ・Set to campaigns (Exclude)
    Your ads won’t be delivered to the target list users under the selected campaign.

    Tips
    When "Allow" is selected, target users and bid adjustment rate can be set.

  6. The following set page will appear.
    When you enable the checkboxes on "Target Lists" page, those lists will appear as "selected."
    *The image is for illustration purpose. The screen will look different depending on what you select.
  7. To you switch the associated Target lists, click the "Select Target list(s)"button.Select the campaign and the ad groups to set to your Target list.
    Tips
    ・To setup specified Target list for an account, click the "Accounts" on the page. If you setup Target list for Target list group by using the feature of sharing Target list across accounts, click the "Target list groups." (*1)

    ・You can select multiple Target lists. Select all lists to setup and then click the "Setup" button at the bottom.

  8. Click the "Setup."

Review the Target List setup

Steps
  1. Click the "Search Ads" tab of the Campaign Management Tool > "Administration."
  2. Click the account name in the ‘Account List.’
  3. Click “Targeting” sub-tab and then click the “Target List.”
  4. “To Ad Groups List” and “To Campaigns List” will appear.
    Tips

    You can edit the following items on the “Target List" page.
    -Target users
    -Set the target users
    -Bid adjustment
    * The item "Target Users" relates to the campaign and ad group setup to the lists, not an item for each Target List. So when you edit settings, the change is applied to all of setup to the campaigns and ad groups.

    Note

    The items for target users and the bid adjustment are available only when you set “allow.” Therefore, if you change from “allow” to “exclude”, the items for the target users and the bid adjustment will be in blank space.

Remove the Target List setup

Steps
  1. Click the "Search Ads" tab of the Campaign Management Tool > "Administration."
  2. Click the account name in the ‘Account List.’
  3. Click “Targeting” sub-tab, and then click “Target List.”
  4. “Setup to Ad Groups List” and “Setup to Campaigns List” will appear.
  5. Enable the option for Setup to be removed.
  6. Click the "Edit" button and select the option "Remove setup for the selected Target List".
  7. On the confirmation window, click the "Clear" button to remove the selected list.
