Tags for conversion tracking

To track conversions (behavior that is considered to be a result, such as purchasing, sign-up, requesting information, etc.) by internet users who click on your ads and visit your website, you need to install a tag for measuring conversion on your website.

Creating a new conversion setting:

We recommend you to install a renewed tag for conversion tracking
The required tags differ depending on whether or not the conversion measurement complement function is used. See below for details.

When using complementary feature of conversion tracking

  • Site general tag, Complementary feature tag of conversion analytics
  • Renewed conversion tag

When you don’t use complementary feature of conversion tracking

  • Site general tag
  • Renewed conversion tag

If you have already installed a former conversion tag on your website:

You can continue to use the former conversion tag.

Tips
  • It is not mandatory to replace it with the renewed version of the tag.
    The new conversion tag format avoids the impacts such as changes made to several browsers under certain environments. We recommend you replace it if you have a chance.
  • When you use the “Click to Call” conversion on Search Ads, you need to install an “Onclick Event Tag” in addition to the above tags.

About renewed tags

  • Renewed conversion tag
    With the former version of the conversion tag, conversion may not be measured correctly depending on the browser of each provider.
    The renewal version is in a new format that is less susceptible to these effects and enables more accurate conversion measurements.
    Install Site general tag (or complementary feature tag of conversion analytics) and a conversion tag together.

  • Site general tag
    The tag manages and executes the renewed conversion tag, site retargeting tag, and complementary feature tag of conversion analytics in an integrated manner.

  • Site general tag, Complementary feature tag of conversion analytics
    It is a tag that has both functions of “Site general tag” and “Complementary feature tags of conversion analytics.”
    Once you install the tag with conversion tag on your website, conversion analytics is available even under the strengthen security of the browser of each provider.
    You also need to the setting of Auto-tagging on your account before using the tag.

  • Tips
    In Display Ads, if you select a country other than "Japan" when creating an account, you can't use auto-tagging. Even if you install the complementary feature tag of conversion analytics, you can't complement the conversion tracking.

Before using renewed tags

  • When installing the renewed conversion tag where the former version of the conversion tag is installed, we recommend you remove the former tag before installing the new one.

  • We recommend that you install the site general tag on all pages of the site. If your website has a large number of pages, the tag can be installed only on the conversion page or landing page.

  • Even if you have already installed the former version of the conversion tag on your website, we recommend the installation of renewed tag when you add a new page to your website.

  • "Site general tag" and "site general tag, complementary feature tag of conversion analytics" are in a format that can be used in common, so even when you are using both Search Ads and Display Ads, the tag can work by installing one of them per page. There is no problem even if multiple installations are made.
    Also, note that you need to install the conversion tag on Search Ads and on Display Ads for each.

How to check the tag installed

You can check the renewed conversion tag and site general tag on your website with the following procedure.

Steps (for Search Ads, for Display Ads on the former tool)
  1. Click the “Tool” tab, then select “Conversion Analytics.”
  2. On the “Conversion Analytics” page, click “View Tag.”
  3. Click “Renewed.”
Steps (for Display Ads on the new ad management tool)
  1. In the upper right corner of the new platform, click the “Tools” icon (Spanner icon). Then in the “Common library”, select “Conversion Analytics.”
  2. On the list of conversion settings, click “View tag.”

    Tips
    You can check only the renewed tag on the new management tool of Display Ads.

Where you install the tag:

Site general tag (or complementary feature tag of conversion analytics)

Please install the tag just after the starting of the “<head>” tag on all pages on your website.

Renewed conversion tag

Install the tag at the place “after the installed site general tag (available within the <body> tag)” or the “timing of conversion action.”
