Upload Item list file and Update Item list

*Dynamic Ads for Display is an ad distribution provided only for specific advertisers. It is not available for customers who can’t see “Item list promotion” as campaign goal on creating a new campaign.

You can update Item list by uploading Item list file on Dynamic Ads for Display of Display Ads.

What is Item list?

It is like a box to store all item data managed by the account. One item list is available for one account. By uploading item list file, you can add and update data on Item list.

What is Item list file?

This is a text file for upload that stores data for adding and updating data in the item list. It must be created in advance according to the prescribed format.

Note
  • Uploaded contents of Item list is subject to review.
  • When the item list is declined for the following reason, reset the item list and update the list.
    Declined reason:
    Your data feed includes a destination URL that conflicts conditions of Yahoo! JAPAN Advertisement Editorial Guidelines and Yahoo! Feed Advertisement Editorial Guidelines.
  • After uploading the product list file, access to the specified Image URL may occur up to about 50 QPS for image acquisition. This access is performed separately from the access for the purpose of the advertiser's site examination.
Tips
To create and upload Item List file, some aid tools are provided by Yahoo! JAPAN Promotional Ads partners. For more details, inquire to our sales officers.

Update Item list (normal upload)

You can upload the item list file to update the data on the list with the following steps.

Steps
  1. In the upper right corner of the new platform, click the tools icon.
  2. Click “Item list” in “Common library”.
  3. Click “Item list updates” button on the Item list screen.
  4. The update Item list screen appears.
  5. Click the "Select a file" button on "Upload Item List" dialogue to select Item List file.
    Tips
    You need to create the item list file that stores the data to add and update data to the Item list in advance. Refer the help page “Create Item list file (Dynamic Ads for Display)” to learn how to create Item list.
  6. Select the type of updating the Item list.
    • Update all
      This option replaces whole of the list with newly uploading file contents. Products not on the newly uploading file will be removed from the list.
    • Update partially
      This option rewrites the difference between the current contents of Item list and on the file upload There is no effect on items without change.
  7. Click the “Error checking” button to perform the error check process for the uploading Item list file.
    Once you perform the check process, the system check whether the contents on the Item list file selected on the Step4 has any wrong data
    Tips
    This step performs checking file only. Since the Item list file is not uploaded with this step, the process is not counted as uploading.
  8. Click “Submit” button once after completed the error check.
    It uploads the Item list file and the process of updating the Item list data starts.
  9. The status of process for updating the Item list can be checked on the history list on the Item lists screen.
    Tips
    You can check the maximum number of uploads per day from "About item list update" on the Item lists screen.
    The number of uploads is counted separately for update all and update difference, and even if the upload fails, the upload count is counted as 1.

Enable Periodic update of Item list (by FTP)

Data feed directly from the Item List file on advertiser’s server by Display Ads system periodically and update Item List with the feed data. This upload method will help you if you need to update the current capacity in stock often in order to synchronize to the value displayed on your ads.
Follow the steps below.

Note
Confirm the following requirement for Periodic upload via FTP.
  • Put the Item List file on your server.
  • Make the Item list file accessible from outside of your system environment.
    If it requires authentication, prepare ID and password before start using periodic upload.
Steps
  1. In the upper right corner of the new platform, click the tools icon.
  2. Click “Item list” in “Common library”.
  3. On the Item list screen, click the “Periodic update” button, then click “Periodic update settings” on the menu.
  4. Set the following items on the periodic update settings screen.
    • Item list URL
      Enter the URL of Item List file on your server. The URL needs to start with “ftp://” or “sftp://”, and ending with “.tsv” or “.zip”.
    • User name
      Enter the user name (ID) to login to your server.
    • Password
      Enter the password to login to your server.
    • Update type
      Select any of the following options.
      • Update all
        This option replaces whole of the list with newly uploading file contents. Products not on the newly uploading file will be removed from the list.
      • Update partially
        This option rewrites the difference between the current contents of Item list and on the file upload There is no effect on items without change.
    • Schedule
      Select frequency of Periodic upload. Following options are available as frequency.
      • Hour of day
        Select this option to upload twice or more a day. Select frequency from 12 levels : ‘hourly interval’ - ‘every 12 hours’.
      • Daily
        Select this option to upload daily. Specify the designated time of day.
      • Weekly
        Select this option to upload weekly on the scheduled day of the week, and time of day. Specify the designated day of week and time of day.
        Note
        Don’t include the user name or password in the URL of the Item list file. Enter the user name and password at the specified entry fields.
        Tips
        You can check the maximum number of uploads per day from "About item list update" on the Item lists screen. The number of uploads is counted separately for update all and update difference.
        When select ‘Hourly’ option, make sure whether the setting exceeds the maximum uploads per day or not.
        Example
        If you set ‘Every 2 hours’, the system uploads on 0:00am, 2:00am, 4:00am, 6:00am as for Periodic upload. However after 6:00am, no upload occurs since it has done 4 uploads per day.
    • Periodic update settings
      Select ‘Active’ in usual case.
      When you need to stop uploading after setting the Periodic update, select “Inactive” option.
  5. Click the “Save” button.
    The status of process for periodic update can be checked on the history list on the Item lists screen. Reconfirm whether the periodic update occurs on designated frequency or schedule after complete setting.
    Tips
    • Before starting periodic update, checking whether there is any change on Item list file after the last update will be processed. If there is no change on the file, the periodic upload process does not run. The number of uploads does not count.
    • The crawler for acquiring the upload file for periodic update uses the following IP addresses. Please make sure and add to your white list if necessary.
      • 114.111.127.0/26
      • 114.111.127.64/27
    • By using the periodic update setting, “Upload now” process which can upload the file immediately is also available. It will help you if you need to apply the latest capacity in stock or updated price for products on your website.
      For “update now”, click the “Item list updates” button and then click “Update now”. Make sure the confirmation message and then click “Submit” button.

Check list for upload error

Make sure the following points when you fail uploading the Item list.

  • Are you using the correct character code?
    “UTF-8”, “Shift JIS” are available as character codes for the Item list file, and it supports “LF” and “CRLF” for line feed.
    Files that use other character codes or line feed codes will cause a file format error and cannot be uploaded.
    A file format error will also occur if the file has a BOM (byte order mark).

  • Have you deleted the items in the Item list file?
    Do not delete any item (column) on the Item list file. For the unnecessary item, remain the item name (such as “Capacity”) on the first row and then leave the second row and other as blank.

  • For update all, the upload process failes when the Item list file includes “Delete”. Please use “Delete” on the process of update partially.

Reset the Item list

After resetting the Item list, item data added to the Item list and created Item set are completely deleted.

Tips
Before resetting the Item list, delete all Dynamic Ads for Display campaigns. You can’t reset the Item list when Dynamic Ads for Display campaign, ad group, ad exists in the account.
Steps
  1. In the upper right corner of the new platform, click the tools icon.
  2. Click “Item list” in “Common library”.
  3. Click the “...” on the right top of the screen, then click “Reset item list”.
  4. Click the “Reset” button in the confirmation dialog.
