Tracking conversions after video view

Yahoo! Display Ads (Auction) enables you to track conversions that occur after a video plays longer than 10 seconds (or after video playback is complete in less than 10 seconds).

Mechanism of Conversion Count after Video Viewing

Set up of App Install Tracking (conversions).

To track ad installs (conversions) you must sign up for and implement a “Tool that supports App Install Tracking (via video viewing)”.

Timing of Conversion Number Tracking

Conversions are recorded not for the day the conversion was generated but for the day of video viewing or the click that led to the conversion. When a video plays longer than 10 seconds (or video playback is complete when video playback time is less than 10 seconds) or when there are multiple clicks that result in conversions, the conversion is counted prior to the click.

Example
In the case where User A plays a video longer than 10 seconds (or after video playback is complete in less than 10 seconds) on October 1, and thereafter leaves the page, then on October 10, enters the advertiser's page via a different route and this results in a conversion.
*The counting period is set to 30 days.
: in the Report, this is counted as conversion after video viewing on October 1. This is included in the “Conversions” metrics in the Report.
Example
User B clicks an ad and lands to the advertisers web page on October 1, and on October 20 views video (10 seconds) with video ad and converts.
*The counting period is set to 30 days.
:This will be counted as post click conversion on October 1. Index on the report is included in "Conversions" and "Conversions via ad click."

  • Parameters other than those listed above may be used, depending on the tool. For details, contact the tool supplier.
  • Required specs and settings (tool settings and Beacon URL issuance, etc.) for tools that support App Install Tracking (via video viewing) are not supported by Yahoo! JAPAN. For support, contact the tool supplier.

Setup procedure for Campaign Management Tool

Setting up Conversion tracking

From “Tracking Period (video view)” in the Create/Edit Conversion Tracking screen
Set conversion tracking period (number of days after a video view until the conversion is generated).
Enter a single-byte number for an interval between 1 and 30 days. Default setting is “1.”

Setting up Create Ad screen (Track app installs)

To track app installs (conversion) via a different route than ad clicks, after a video plays longer than 10 seconds (or after video playback is complete in less than 10 seconds), enter the URL issued by the supplier of “tools that support App Install Tracking (via video viewing)”in the “Viewing Beacon URL (10 seconds)” field in the Create Ad Screen.
At that time, check that the required parameters listed in the List of Ad Effectiveness Tracking Tools that support App Install Tracking (via video viewing) and Required Parameters are included. If not included, add parameters to the URL.

Tips
  • You can use half-width numbers, characters, and symbols (following RFC3986) in the Viewing beacon URL (10 seconds). Japanese URLs are unavailable. Encode the symbols in the URLs (other than parameters for tracking).
  • Even when playback of a video is not charged, at the timing when a video plays longer than 10 seconds (or after video playback is complete in less than 10 seconds) it will be counted in a Report.

About Conversion-related Metrics

There are two types of conversion-related metrics.

  1. Conversions resulting from either users who visit the site by clicking on an ad, or users who visit the site after a video playback longer than 10 seconds (or after video playback is complete in less than 10 seconds) are counted

Tips
To check only the value of those conversions via video view, excluding those via an ad click, calculate by deducting the value of metric "2" from the metric 1 above.
Example
Conversions - Conversions (via click) = conversions (via video view)
Regarding metric 2 above, use this as a metric that can check the number of conversions that resulted only via an ad click.
