Gender targeting

Gender targeting can be used to set the gender of users viewing ads in advance, by narrowing down ad viewers. You can select the users for ad delivery at the ad group level from the following genders.
It’s possible to make multiple selections.

  • Male: Ads are only delivered to male users.
  • Female: Ads are only delivered to female users.
  • Unknown: Ads are only delivered to users with gender unknown.
Tips
  • All Genders are selected under the default setting.

The accuracy of targeting is not guaranteed by Yahoo! JAPAN. Selected settings and other factors may cause inaccuracies with this targeting.

Predicted Users

Predicted users mean the audience who seems to be in the selected gender group. The estimation uses machine learning based on the delivery data of each ad place and users' interests, such as search history.  When selecting a specific gender for targeting, ads will be delivered to the user of the gender you selected and to the users who are presumed to be the selected gender.

Example
  • When a check mark is added only in “Female”
    Ad delivery targets are only the users determined to be Female
  • When check marks are entered in “Female” and “Assumed”.
    Ad delivery targets are “Users determined to be Female” and “Users assumed to be Female”

When no check mark is entered in “Assumed”, in some cases the ad display number may decrease in breadth. Additionally, you cannot set “Assumed” only. Set up Genders in a set.

Tips
With the set gender and assumption, you can set Bid Adjustment Rates individually. For details see the following pages.

Change gender targeting settings

Following ways are available for changing gender targeting settings.
Select the ad group in "Edit" from the gender targeting list view and make the change
Change settings in ad group creation view or ad group settings screen

 

Select the ad group in “Edit” from the gender targeting list view and make the change

Steps
  1. Click “Gender” in the side menu
  2. Click “Edit”
  3. Click the campaign where the ad group to set targeting is added, and the ad group.
  4. Select "All genders" or "Specify gender" in the Gender Edit.
  5. When you selected "Specify gender," add a check to the gender for ad delivery in the Gender screen, or remove check for genders not for ad delivery.
  6. Click “Set”

Steps
  1. Click “Targeting” > “Gender” in the Edit screen for the “Create ad group” screen or the “Ad group settings” >_Select "All genders" or "Specify gender"
  2. When you selected "Specify gender," add a check to the gender for ad delivery in the Gender screen, or remove check for genders not for ad delivery.
  3. Click “Create” or “Save”

Gender targeting settings (On/Off) can be changed in bulk by the following method.

Steps
  1. Click “Gender” in the side menu_
  2. Add a check mark in the target items
  3. Click “Bulk edit”
  4. Click “Turn on” or “Turn off”
    Tips
    You cannot set all of “Male”, “Female”, and “Unknown” to Off. One or more out of “Male”, “Female”, and “Unknown” must be set to On.
