What is a Placement List?

This is a list of URLs of websites that deliver ads (or do not place ads). Set an ad group for the created placement list and use placement targeting.

Tips
  • Placement lists are created at the account level. For 1 account up to 100 lists can be created.
  • For 1 Placement List, up to 1000 URLs can be added.
  • Individual smartphone app URLs can also be added to placement list. For details see On URLs at Smartphone App Delivery Times.
  • When a directory is included in URL registered in the placement list, the URL will be target for delivery only when the directory part is perfectly matched.
    Example
    When placement list including URL “yahoo.co.jp/1” is set as “placement target” in ad group B
    • “yahoo.co.jp/1/2” : for delivery (prefix match)
    • ”news.yahoo.co.jp/1”: for delivery (suffix match)
    • ”news.yahoo.co.jp/1/2” : for delivery (the registered URL “yahoo.co.jp/1” is fully included within this URL)
    • “yahoo.co.jp/111/2”: not included for delivery (registered URL ”yahoo.co.jp/1” directory part is “1” but because this URL is “111” it’s not a match)
  • To set for delivery the top page of the PC version of Yahoo! JAPAN (or to set for non-delivery) specify ”toppage.yahoo.co.jp”.

On Targeting Using Placement Lists

If you set a placement list, the list registered URL with prefix match, or suffix match URL website will be for ad delivery (or for non-delivery). Non-match URL websites are not targeted for placement targeting.

Example
When a placement list that includes the URL “www.yahoo.co.jp” is set for delivery for ad group A.
“www.yahoo.co.jp”: for delivery
“shopping.yahoo.co.jp” : for non-delivery (because “www” is not included)
*to make the two above URLs targeted for delivery, configure “yahoo.co.jp” by direct entry.
Note
Placement targeting can be set for ad groups for which ad delivery method is by campaign of “Targeting” “Infeed Ad” and “Video Ad”.

Create Placement List

Steps
  1. Click the wrench icon, in the top right corner of the Display Ads management tool.
  2. Click “Placement list” in “Common library”.
  3. Placement lists screen will be displayed.
  4. Click “+Create Placement List” button.
  5. Create placement list screen is displayed so enter the following items.
    - Placement list name
    Enter a Placement List name. You cannot enter the same name as for a list that has already been created. Entry is required.
    - Description (optional)
    Enter the description of your placement list.
    - Add URL
    Set URLs for websites to be registered in placement list. Select URL for registration from list or manually enter. 

    Find URL and select
    You can select URLs to add to Placement List from the list of URLs of websites with ad delivery results. Select “Find URL and select”.

    (1) Find URL
    Designate the search keyword and click the search button, and you can find URLs that match the keyword. Broad Match is supported.
    (2) Narrowing functionality
    You can narrow down by any site categories or ad types (text, banner, responsive).
    (3) Selection button
    Selected URLs will be registered in the placement list.
    (4) URL
    URL candidates with delivery records will be displayed. A maximum of 10,000 items can be displayed in a list.

    Tips
    URLs from the URL candidate list are displayed for each domain or directory (up to second level) (depending on the website, some URLs are displayed up to the domain).

    (5) Confirm ad type
    Click the "i" icon next to each URL and you can check the site's ad types (text, banner, responsive) and supported image sizes.
    (6) Reference values
    The reference value is displayed based on results for each URL. Number of impressions and user size will be displayed as the total value at the device level.
    *The value displayed as the reference value is the ad impressions number as well as the user size tallied by us independently. The value does not show the media scale such as the page-view numbers (PV) or unique user numbers (UU) for each domain or each URL.

    Tips
    - User size is the number of visitors that access the target URL.
    - When URL candidate list reference value is less than 100 “less than 100” is displayed. And when reference value is 100 to 999, the second and smaller digits are rounded down and displayed. For 1000 or more, the first 2 digits are left and the third and following digits are rounded down and displayed.
    Example
     Number of impressions is 1 : “less than 100”
     Number of impressions is 99 : “less than 100”
     Number of impressions is 299 : “200”
     Number of impressions is 15,999 : “15,000”
    - URLs for which the total value for the number of impressions for all devices is less than a certain value will not be displayed in the URL candidate list.
    - URL candidate list is tallied from data for the last 30 days and periodically updated.

    (7) ”Include unknown ad places” button
    URLs for which the delivery place cannot be acquired (unknown address) are added to the placement list.
    (8) ”On” “Off” Button
    Click the round button and change the ”On” “Off” status of the applicable URL. If a URL is added to the placement list but will be removed from the list temporarily, click “OFF” button.

    Display list of URLs already added to Placement list.

    Enter URL manually
    Enter URL to add to placement list. Select “Manually enter URL”.

    (1) URL entry field
    Enter URL to add to placement list. When entering multiple URLs, enter them separated by line breaks.

    (2) ”Add URL” button
    Add URL entered in the URL entry blank to placement list
    (3) ”Include unknown ad places” button
    URLs for which the delivery place cannot be acquired (unknown address) are added to the placement list.

  6. Click “Save” Button and save placement list.

Tips to Create Placement List

On the view of Creating Placement List, load the settings of the currently existing list to check the information on the entry field.
Click "Load existing placement list" button and select the list to be loaded on the appeared window.
With this operation, you can omit the steps to enter each setting items.
