Search keyword targeting

Search keyword targeting is a function for targeting ad distribution to users who searched using specific keywords. Search keyword targeting can be set up by selecting keywords from a previously created list (Search Keyword List).

Create Search Keyword List

To use search keyword targeting, a list (Search Keyword List) of the users to whom you want to deliver ads based on their search keywords must be prepared in advance.

Set search keyword targeting

Search keyword targeting is set when a new Ad Group is created or for an Ad Group that has been already created. Setting details can be edited later.
To create a new Ad Group under a campaign that has already been created, select “Ad Group” on the side menu (setting items) and click “Create Ad Group.” Learn more about Ad Group creation on the following page.

Tips

With the Display Ads management tool, you can create new ad groups and new ads, in addition to new campaigns, at the same time.
When starting with new campaign creation, select “Campaign” from the side menu (setting items), and click “Create Campaign.”

Setting up search keyword targeting

There are two ways to set up search keyword targeting.

Set by selecting an Ad Group on the “Edit Search Keywords” screen

Steps
  1. Click “Search keyword” in side menu (settings items).
  2. Click “Edit.”
    Moves to “Edit search keywords” screen.
  3. Select the campaign in which the ad group to set targeting is registered, and the applicable ad group.
  4. Select "Specify search keyword lists."
  5. Select a search keyword list to be set.
    The selected list is displayed in “Selected lists” on the right side of the screen.


    Tips
    ・To change the ad group subject to be set, click “Change setting target” displayed on the right side of the setting target to return to the ad group selection screen.
    ・ Click the i icon on the right of the search keyword list name to check list description.
    ・When you click “To Search keyword list management screen” when creating or editing a Search keyword list, you will move to the list screen.
  6. Click “Set.”

Steps
  1. Click “Ad group settings” > "Specify search keyword lists" on the "Targeting" item of "Search keyword" on the "Ad group settings" screen or the “Create ad group” screen.
  2. Select a search keyword list to be set.
    The selected list is displayed in “Selected lists” on the right side of the screen.

    Tips
    ・ Click the i icon on the right of the search keyword list name to check list description.
    ・Click “Reload” to load the latest Search Keyword List. Click to set a new search Keyword List, after creating it.
    ・Click “To Search keyword list management screen” when creating or editing a Search Keyword List, to move to the list management screen.
  3. Click the “Create” or “Save” button.

    Note
    • If the ad delivery targets are narrowed down too much, the ad display frequency may be greatly reduced.
    • Yahoo! JAPAN shall not guarantee the accuracy of targeting, which may vary depending on selected settings and other factors.

Check the performance values of search keyword targeting

You can check the performance (impressions, clicks, conversions, etc.) of search keyword targeting set for the ad group. There are two ways to check.

Check from campaign list of Campaign Management Tool

You can check the performance data from the search targeting list view. Learn more on Check performance data.

Check from reports

You can check the data by setting "Search keyword name" and "Search keyword list ID" from "Setting items :Basic" of "Basic item" when creating a performance report.

*To check each performance data by search keyword, specify "Search keyword" from "Segment."

Note
  • When one internet user matches multiple lists for each targeting, impressions and other performance values ​​will only be added to the list with the highest bid adjustment rate. When the maximum bid adjustment rate is set for multiple lists, the actual value will be added to each list. Therefore the performance data and the report totals by search keyword list, target list, and placement list may not match other performance data and reports.
